I don't want to too closely evoke these... I did get pointed a youtube link AFTER the maw-genesis brainstorm, but darn it if these aren't genius. Made from trash and components finding their way into (fractal structures) floating on the wind, moving about under the energy and power of earth's natural activity.

They could have their own great migration. Starting from the E-waste Landfill, moving across the Bering Strait. Maybe they PICK UP THINGS along the way, floating items, power sources.
They DROP THE IN THE SEA - LEAVE THEM ON THE SHORE... and then wait for the kelpie - sea beast, sea carpet thingy - and then slowly they arrive, to feast off the bounty, and then the strandbeests slowly move on top of them, and catch the wind, and create a flotilla that brings them over towards the california coast.
Maybe different ones end up wandering to different places.
